My name is Sabrina Leber and I started this program when I was 14 years old. I grew up with my parents' influence of always giving back, expecting nothing in return. Throughout my life, my family has always encouraged such acts of kindness. As I've grown, I realized how charitable actions can positively impact people's lives. Serving families in a local food kitchen, opened my eyes to how many families, and even peers, do not have enough to eat. Then, when I saw a neighborhood bakery discarding their daily bread in the evening, my idea for Hungry for Change was formed. My goal is to help make it easier for the local bakery or restaurant to get their surplus to people who are hungry,
My mission is to connect food wholesalers, restaurants, and caterers that have a food surplus with food pantries and distribution centers. To do this, I research and call food distributors, restaurants, and caterers who discard their food at the end of each night. I also find organizations that are willing to take prepared untouched food. Then I make a match between the two and work with volunteers to get the food delivered. My goal is to help forge sustainable partnerships and to use what already exists in our community to help feed others. No child, nor person should ever go to bed hungry!
